Re: December 15th Fellowship - Getting to know you!

poke poke -- are you awake?
Let's have some fun on Sunday!
Love you all.

On Fri, Dec 6, 2013 at 5:44 PM:

Our upcoming fellowship will be a time for really getting to visit with one another.  We will start out with opening words and candle lighting, as well as joys & concerns, all that we have come to expect.  After that, it will be time to eat, drink, and be merry with greeting of friends old and new.

Feel free to bring along some background music cds to share during our potluck.  I have the Charlie Brown Christmas collection - an early gift from my neighbor - that I'm excited to share and some other instrumental holiday sounds as well.

Be sure to bring your coupons for our coupon exchange!  I just sorted thru what I have while baking up some banana bread.  So, I'm ready this time, IF I don't leave them on the kitchen table again!

This will all begin at 5 PM on Sunday, December 15th at the Plantory.  Potluck is the format.  Anyone who wishes is welcome to join us for the Council meeting at 2:30 PM before Fellowship.

If you have any questions or concerns, please post to group or contact us thru the Garden website.

May you all have a blessed evening - and lots of rest for people working at their jobs or stuffing stockings in the morning!

Save the Date: YULE - Saturday, December 21st

It has become a tradition over the years here in the Bluegrass area for the wayward Pagans and free-thinkers to find their way to Miss Sandra's home to warm themselves by the yule log, share in ritual and food, and make some new friends to warm the Winter.

This year will bring much the same.  The gathering is in a private home, so if you don't know the way, please contact us thru our website for that information.

Date: Saturday, December 21st
Time: 4 PM til Miss Sandra says to go away

Dress as casually or as fanciful as you like, but be sure to dress appropriately for the weather!
If you can bring a dish to share, it does help with the constant grazing that seems to occur after the first round of food.

There will be decorating of the Yule tree, caroling, ritual, and probably a bit more.  I do hope to see your smiling faces there.

Joy: Congrats, Morehead!

A huge victory in Eastern Kentucky this week: Morehead is now the 6th city in the Commonwealth to pass fairness protections - prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity for local residents.

Re: Stocking Stuffers re-scheduled due to ice!

Well this weekend has turned into a *cluster*.  My phone battery died this morning so I missed the call from Grace saying that "the roads are clear, so we are going to meet at 10:30". :-(
My apologies to all who were looking forward to this opportunity for giving.  I did call Grace this afternoon and asked her to please let us know when the date is planned for next year.
Apparently, we are still supposed to have icy weather heading our way, so the Madison County UU Fellowship has cancelled services for tomorrow.  I hope you all stay safe and warm.
Again, I'm so sorry things got turned around.

Stocking Stuffers re-scheduled due to ice!

I called everyone who had stated for sure they would be there.  Grace let me know that it was getting icy in Lexington and they did not want to put anyone at risk in the morning, so that being said, the Prison Ministry stocking stuffer event has been moved to next Saturday, December 14th, at 9 AM in the basement of St. Raphael's on Parker Mill.

Sorry for sending this notice so late... I have just gotten caught up here at home.
I hope everyone is safe and warm  tonight.  Give yourself a little extra time in the morning to account for ice and drivers that are not used to ice.

Bright Blessings to you all!

Thanksgiving Reminder

Just a quick note to remind those who may be interested.

Thanksgiving Dinner will be semi-potluck style one week from tomorrow, Thursday, November 28, at roughly 6 PM. Arrive early or late as your needs dictate.

This will be held in the home of Sandra and Patrick and co-hosted by Layla. Please contact us thru the website if you have any questions or are looking to help out in some way.

Sandra has done this for our greater Pagan-esque community for many years now, so this is not a "Garden specific" event in any way. However, we do highly endorse it and support our members and friends in their endeavors.

I sincerely hope that those who do not have prior plans, or who may not have family locally to share in this celebration, will not hesitate to join us for Thanksgiving.

Also, please, if you have a friend who will be alone this holiday, bring them with. Sandra will never turn away a plus-one. We should all pull together during the holiday season to share our joys and our sorrows as a community, a tribe, and even a village.

*tucking soap box away* I'll probably be one of the late arrivals but I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Merry Met and Brightest Blessings!

Trick or Treat schedules

For those that might be affected.  Trick or Treat will still be 6 - 8 PM on Thursday the 31st for Fayette County, regardless of weather.

Madison County has moved their Trick or Treat time to Friday the 1st from 6 - 8 PM for the safety of the children, as the weather may be calling for Tornadoes or some such.

Those ambitious children with parents willing to travel can now horde candy two nights in a row if they are able to brave the weather. :-)

Just thought I should send out a heads up, as there seemed to be much confusion earlier today, at least for Madison County people.

Happy Haunting and Merry Devil's Night!

Our First Garden Wedding

Well, in the tradition of shotgun weddings, this happened with no warning and no guest list...

July 12th, Rev. SonnyD brought together in holy matrimony Kendra Bartell-Coyle and Mason Cantrell.  Kendra is being a thoroughly modern Milly and keeping part of her maiden name AND taking Mason's last name to be Kendra Cantrell-Coyle.

Our congratulations to them both. Sounds like it was a good, yet crazy, time for all.

Rumor has it that the Mothers-in-law, along with Grandma, are planning a real shindig that we can all attend on the one-year anniversary for a re-commitment ceremony.

And for those that haven't heard, Kendra is having a GIRL this time around and her name will be Sydnee Elane Cantrell.  Expect to see this beautiful new face sometime at the end of August.

---

And we would like to see your beautiful face this coming Sunday, July 21st, at our Fellowship Service exploring the beginnings of Human Society/Community.  We'll be at the Plantory at 5 PM. Potluck after service.

Bright Blessings!

Summer Solstice

As the sun has finally set and the full moon has risen on this longest day of the year, we hope you all have found joy in the peak of the season and have plans to spend valuable time with family and friends before the autumn rushes in on us once more.

Bright Blessings!

Motherhood Mandala

This event was passed to me by a Garden member.  Ladies, if you are interested, please come out.  Please pass this info to a friend that may like to come out.  We have over a week to spread the word.

Here is the info I was given:

Who: All women in Lexington, especially the ones that are hurting from lost child, abortion, fertility issues, etc

What: Motherhood Mandala. This is a secular community art piece that is temporary. It is made out of cut flowers, bamboo

When: Sunday June 23rd noon-4pm

Where: Woodland park in between pool and skate park.

How: Women will curiously approach mandala space, read sign, and decide to place a flower on the outline. Then I or someone else will start convo, or suggest they write a prayer or blessing on a 'flag' and hang it from the bamboo scaffolding surrounding the mandala. They will make a connection, and might find someone else who is struggling with the same issue. Maybe someone will offer prayer to them, or begin a new friendship.

Important reminders: I have a city permit to do this, and it comes with stipulations. I cannot approach women and solicit them to come over. I cannot be advertising my business. I cannot be preaching etc. THIS IS A 'SECULAR' event!!! Yall are folks who I have invited to come and love and help the healing process. If, perchance, you of your own accord decide to offer prayer or begin a friendship with a woman then that's great- but  its organic and its holy spirit and its your faith.

I would LOVE to offer pedicures or 'foot washing' to these ladies and massage.

That being said, I do need a few things if people are willing to help out:

1. Donate cut up tee shirts that can be used as prayer flags

2. Sharpies to write prayers on the flags

3. Cut flowers, rocks, or other nature items

4. Hemp twine

5. Light refreshments

6. Set up/ take down  crew

7. Musician who can play guitar

8. Bubbles to blow and attract attention

9. Bowls for foot washing AKA pedicures

10. Epsom salts, essential oils

11. Chairs

12. A large bag of Sunflower bird seed to make the outline

13. Clothing pins

A wonderful, yet rainy, Beltane

Tonight was great. Good food and fellowship.  I enjoyed the fairy ritual.  And the drumming was great until the water fairies forced us to seek shelter.

Looking forward to seeing many of the same and maybe some new faces next Sunday, May 12, at the Plantory for our Mother's Day fellowship and potluck.  Our topic will be "It takes a Village".  Festivities begin at 5 PM.

If you have any questions, feel free to stop by our website and leave a note.

Many blessings to you all during this planting season for strong roots and flourishing growth.

May is sneaking up fast, let's get together!

If you are interested in coming out to see what we are like, there are two opportunities in the near future.

May 4th - 5 PM - 9 PM - Beltane
This will be in place of our normal Saturday Social so that we can celebrate the holiday together and with the greater community.  I'm not sure what all is planned, but it should be a fun and relaxing time.

May 12th - 5 PM - 7 PM - Fellowship and Potluck
Topic is "It takes a Village". We have a service with discussion followed by at least an hour of eating and socializing.  We have Fellowship once a month at this time, always a similar format followed by potluck.

Both of these events will be at The Plantory. Beltane will be an outside event.

Garden Source Spiritual Center
@ The Plantory,
560 E. Third St., Suite 105
Lexington KY 40508-1738

You can find out more about the Plantory on their website, which I think also includes map and directions.  http://plantory.org/

Re: First Fellowship at The Plantory and announcements

Tentatively... will pass the word when things are set in stone, so to speak.  But this is what our hope is.

And our Beltane will be Saturday, May 4th, 2013, at the pavilion area OUTSIDE the Plantory from 5 PM to 9 PM.

Re: First Fellowship at The Plantory and announcements

Late night typo... January 14 should read January 19.  Sorry about any confusion.  19th is Third Sunday. :-)
And our Beltane will be Saturday, May 4th, 2013, at the pavilion area OUTSIDE the Plantory from 5 PM to 9 PM.

So, our planned fellowship dates and topics are as follows:

May 12th - It Takes A Village - presented by Sharon and Village
June 16th - Gender Roles in Community and Family - multiple presenters
July 21st - Ancient History of Human Communities - presented by Keven
August 18th - Community Harvest - presented by Rev. SonnyD
September 15th - Alternatives to Current Communities - presented by Sandra
October 20th - Humanism in Community - presented by Barbara
November 17th - Baskets for Families - presented by Sharon
December 15th - Getting To Know You - open fellowship and community time
January 14th, 2014 - Community Survival - presented by Rev. SonnyD

We are trying to plan something special for Beltane.  So, Save The Date May 4th (Saturday from 6 - 10 PM) and we will keep you posted!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us through our website, GardenSourceSC.org.

First Fellowship at The Plantory and announcements

I can't speak for anyone else, but I had a wonderful time.  The site is beautiful and a very good fit for us at this point in our growth. We have some new members, partially thanks to our new location. I'm already excited for next month!

Just a bit of announcements and news:

Saturday Social this coming, the 20th, we will be recognizing Earth Day.  Not sure what the activities will be, maybe seed bombs again? But as always, a family-dinner-style potluck and lots of good company.  This is held at a member's home, so please contact us via our website for info and directions.

Our next fellowship will be on May 12th (Mother's Day), then starting in June (on the 16th for Father's Day) we plan to have fellowship on the third Sunday of each month at 5 PM at The Plantory.  We will not have Saturday Social the night before a fellowship.  Two potlucks in a row was a bit much for everyone.

Some of our members and friends will be going to see the Dalai Lama in Louisville on May 19th.  Hopefully, they will bring back pictures and stories to share with us.

Also, we plan to have a booth at Gay Pride this year, downtown Lexington in front of the courthouses, on Saturday, June 29th.  Not sure of the times or any specific details just yet.

Ok, that is quite a bit to absorb for now!  Just wanted to get it all out there while it was fresh in my memory.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us through our website, GardenSourceSC.org.

Bright Blessings and many hugs to you all!

Lexington KY 40508-1738

Blessings and Hugs to you All!

And the wheel of the year goes round and round...

Happy Spring!  Yes, I'm a bit late, but today was the first full day of Spring, and it snowed!  Thankfully, it was not the sticking kind, but the air was so bitterly cold that I ached to my bones.  I hope you all are staying warm.  If you are needing to bring a little warmth into your Spring, please come out to join us in celebrating Ostara (Easter, if you will) and the beginning of Spring with potluck and ritual this Saturday.  Socializing will start around 6 PM.  There will be some bonus elements to the evening, so come out, bring a dish, bring a friend, and wear your brightest smile.
This will be held at a private residence, so PLEASE r.s.v.p. through our website GardenSourceSC.org if you have never been out there before.
I hope you all have endured your Winter with strength, perseverance, and resilience, and are ready to let your Garden start to bloom.
Many hugs and much love to You!

Thank you, you brave souls who made this another memorable Imbolc

You people rock! All day yesterday I thought no one would come due to the weather. But, surprise surprise! How nice it was of you to be undeterred. This former New Yorker has to tip her hat to you. You made my day. The only thing that could have made it better would have been some bright sunshine and good health for all so everybody who wanted to come could have. Hopefully, we will see you soon because we love you and do miss you.

Big hugs,

Sandra

These might be of interest...

A smattering of us are UU affiliated in some way or another, so I thought I would share these two things I saw in the Heartland newsletter:

First, there is a month long Standing on the Side of Love activity and pledge, more info here  http://www.standingonthesideoflove.org/30daysoflove/

and Second, UU is looking for submissions for a book of meditations, more info here  http://www.uua.org/publications/skinnerhouse/6094.shtml

Imbolc/Imbolg

Imbolc or Imbolg, also called the Feast of Brigid or Candlemas, celebrates the approach of Spring. The term "Imbolc" means "in milk" and at this time pregnant sheep begin to lactate. This is one sure sign that spring is coming soon. Although the days are getting longer, this is still the heart of winter.

Hi folks!
This is Sandra inviting you to our upcoming celebration of Imbolc.

Where: At Sandra's
When: 6:00 PM, Saturday, Feb 2nd, 2013

Things are drawing together fast. Here is what we have planned so far for our activities

MEET AND GREET

I know many of you have missed each other all winter and want a chance to make new friends in the community. So, hopefully, there will be time to be your old chatty self.

BURNING OF THE CANDLES

Please, bring any candles from rituals already done from which you want to disperse any remaining energy by burning them completely. They will be placed on the altar and allowed to finish burning. You may wish to bury any remaining scraps that can't be burned. This should be quite pretty if we don't have so many, that we burn the place down! Yikes! Bring on those candles, anyway. LOL!

MAIN RITUAL

This ritual will be for for purification or banishing. Imbolc is a day that we would do major spring cleaning mentally, spiritually and physically, getting rid of the old in order to make room for the new.

FEAST!!!!

Please, feel to bring a dish to share if you wish to and are able. In no way is this required. What we really want is YOU and the pleasure of your companionship as we celebrate. Traditional foods for Imbolc are all dairy products, Curries, Onions, Chives, Spiced Wine, Seeds, Herbal tea.

BLESSING OF THE TOOLS

If you have ritual tools, that you have not yet dedicated or that you want blessed at this time, please bring them so we can share in your joy at their dedication and blessing.

IMBOLC READINGS

We will have a reading to help with our appreciation and understanding of the purpose of this Imbolc celebration. If you have a personal favorite you want read, please reply, so we can get that in the program, too. This celebration is for you folks!

PLANTING OF A SEED

We will each plant a seed as a symbol of our hope and belief, that there will be goodness in our future.

Happy 2013!

Well, we have successfully begun a new calendar year.  Many familiar faces were lost in the old year, if you follow popular culture (and I believe many do).

Khlowe wanted to share her artful Elemental Dragons, so they have been included here for your viewing pleasure.  Feel free to copy them for your personal enjoyment. (Apparently only one can be posted at a time, so please bear with our technical difficulties. )

There will be a Saturday Social tonight and our first service of the year will be next Sunday, January 13th.  If you want to join us, please contact us thru our website for address and other information.

We all wish you the best for 2013!
