The Fifth Annual Whippoorwill Festival - Skills for Earth-Friendly Living, near Berea Kentucky begins next week, starting on Thursday, July 9 through Sunday July 12.

We've got a great lineup of over 85 workshops for this year's festival, including a trip to Susana Lein's magical permaculture farm, Salamander Springs, and a trip to Forest Retreats, the amazing home of Tim Hensley and Jane Post, just down the road from the Whippoorwill Festival site, where a straw bale house is being built. 

Craig Caudill, with the Nature Reliance School in Winchester, will be with us again.  Carol Judy, the wonderful mountain root digger from Tennessee - and so many more interesting people will be at Whippoorwill. Rachel Milford with Reclaiming Your Roots in Knoxville, Bluegrass Greensource, Mike D. with the Organic Consumers Association, and Wild Bill with the High Adventure Wilderness School.    Plus live music, a group campfire and dancing every night.

Whippoorwill is a great place to meet new people and make new friends!

We expect a very good crowd for this year's festival - it will probably be the biggest turnout yet for Whippoorwill ... in our five years, we just keep growing. Last year, nearly 500 people attended Whippoorwill.  It is also possible that Whippoorwill may go on hiatus after this year ... so if you have ever wanted to come to Whippoorwill, this would be a great year to do it! 

The Red Lick Valley of Madison County, just outside of Berea in central Kentucky, is a stunningly beautiful place.  As you drive up to the festival site, slow down and take some time to drink in the beauty of Kentucky's knobs. 

HomeGrown HideAways is our festival site, and it is a lovely spot.  We will be in a deep Appalachian holler, surrounded by lush forests and mountains, and sometimes we hear the call of the Whippoorwill at night.  It's a magical and haunting sound.  HomeGrown HideAways is about 20 minutes outside of Berea, Kentucky.  For those travelling in from out of state, Interstate 75 goes past Berea, so Whippoorwill is not too hard to find.  

Whippoorwill strives to be a family friendly festival.  We offer free admission for children 16 and under!  There will be lots of children at the festival and many young families.  We have tried to keep your costs low for families by serving two simple meals (breakfast and dinner) a day and this is included in your ticket price.  Camping and parking is also included. 

A 4-day adult pass for the whole festival is only $120 and a 3-day pass is $90.  Prices will be higher at the gate so purchasing tickets online in advance is the way to go. 

I think this festival is a bargain for families, with over 85 workshops, plus music and dancing in the evenings.  We have lots of old time Appalachian music this year so the dancing should be lively.  Saturday night is the contra dance.  

Tickets can be purchased now at the festival websitewww.whippoorwillfest.com until Tuesday of next week.  The site takes Paypal and Visa etc. and its a simple process.
